들풀의 생태를 통해본 자율적 리듬 표현 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 석사학위 청구전에 발표한 작품을 중심으로 2002년부터 2004년까지 대학원 재학 중 제작된 작품을 대상으로 연구 분석하였다. 작품제작의 동기와 제작 기법과 과정을 분석하여 작품에 대한 다각적 분석을 시도 하였으며 본인의 예술관과 어떠한 인과관계를 형성하고 있는지 체계적으로 정리하고자 하였다. 산업사회를 지나며 발전을 거듭한 인류의 물질문명은 인간에게 물질적 풍요와 편리함을 가져다주었다. 그러나 산업의 발전과 도시의 확대는 자연 환경을 파괴하며 창조질서 속에 내재한 생태의 적정성과 균형이 파괴되어 생태계의 급변화를 가져오고 있으며, 결과적으로 변질된 환경은 인간에게 안식과 휴식을 주지 못하고 있다. 예술은 인간의 삶과 밀접한 관계가 있으며 예술과 환경, 그리고 현실에 대한 관심은 그 시대의 정서를 반영하여 예술작품 안에 직간접으로 나타나게 된다. 본인의 작품은 현대화의 확대로 잊혀져가는 자연을 상징하는 야생초를 통하여 자율적 생동감을 표현하고자 하였다. 도시의 주변, 본인의 생활 속에서 발견한 자생적 야생초는 자연의 질서 속에서 질긴 생명력을 가지고 있으면서도, 현대인의 시각에서는 외면되고 있는 소외된 존재이다. 본인의 회화에서 야생초는 드로잉적 표현과 판화기법을 통하여 생동감이 더하여지고 생명과 자율적 존재를 상징하는 매개가 된다. 현대인은 도시화된 환경에서 편리함을 만끽하고 있지만 자연인으로서의 육체와 정신은 진정한 안식을 누리지 못하고 있다. 현대인은 자연에서 휴식하고자 하는 욕구를 가지면서도 물질문명은 개발이라는 이름으로 자연을 훼손한다. 본인은 이름 모를 야생초에 은유적 표현을 더하여 정서의 정화를 불러일으키게 하고자 한다. 이를 통하여 물질문명 속에서 건조해진 인간의 정서를 자연에 내재된 생명력과의 교감을 통하여 회복시킬 수 있다는 메세지를 나타내고자 하는 것이다. 생동하는 자연을 표현한 작업 안에도 무력감과 건조함을 넘어서서 생기 있는 주체적, 자율적 자아로 거듭나게 하는 동인을 발견할 수 있다고 생각하며, 자율적 생명감이 충만한 예술을 통하여 인간성이 회복되고 이로 인하여 풍요로운 삶을 영위하기를 바라는 것이다. 본인은 위와 같은 생각을 드로잉적 표현과 판화매체를 이용한 기법을 적용하여, 자연에 내재한 생명력 있는 자율적인 생동감을 표현하여 정서의 회복에 기여하고자 한다. 본 논고를 통하여 본인은 자연에 대한 상징적 이미지로 야생초를 차용하여 생태환경의 생명력을 재확인하고 인간정서의 회복과 자연에의 회귀를 통한 인간적 삶의 영위의 가능성을 인식하게 되었으며, 본인의 조형적 창작활동이 생명력의 회복을 통한 현대인의 정신적 풍요를 위하여 기여할 수 있는 예술의 영역으로 발전시켜야 할 것을 제시하고자 한다.|This thesis focuses on studying and analyzing the works that I made while in graduate school from 2002 to 2004, which were mainly presented before an application for a master's degree. I attempted to analyze the works from various angles by examining the motive, technique and process of production and to systematically organize the causal relationship between my art view and my works. After industrial society, the material civilization has been extremely developed and brought us material prosperity and convenience. On the other hand, as industrial development and urban expansion have destroyed the natural environment and the ecological propriety and balance in creation order, the ecosystem has undergone dramatic changes. Eventually, the deteriorated environment became unable to provide comfort and rest to people. Art is closely related to human life. Therefore, directly and indirectly, the interests in art, environment and reality are displayed in works of art reflecting a mentality of the time. My works aimed at expressing the autonomous freshness through wild grass, which stands for the nature falling into oblivion with the spread of modernization. Naturally growing wild plants that I found on the skirts of a city and in my life have enduring vitality and yet are being neglected by the modern society. In my paintings, wild plants serve as a medium that symbolizes life and an autonomous being to which I add animation utilizing drawing expression and printmaking technique. Even though the moderns are enjoying a fully measure of convenience in the urban environment, they are not blessed with the true peace of body and soul as a natural man. While the moderns have a desire to rest in nature, they ruin the environment with the material civilization as a name of development. I try to add metaphoric expressions to the wild plants with no certain name and evoke the emotional catharsis. That way, I am able to exhibit my message that people's barren emotion in the material civilization can be revived by communing with the energy in nature. I believe we can find an inducement that cultivates a subjective and autonomous self with vivacity rather than helplessness and insipidity, inside the paintings expressing the vivid nature. Therefore, I hope the natural and rich life is led through the restoration of human nature with the help of arts filled with autonomous vitality. As I apply my philosophy to the technique using drawing expression and printmaking media and accentuate the vitality in nature and the existence of the vigour in wild plants, I would like to contribute to the recovery of a mentality through the autonomous energy. Throughout this study, I reconfirmed ecological vitality by adopting wild plants as a symbolic image for nature and recognized the possibility of attaining a humane life through the restoration of emotion and return to nature. My creative activity of a painting suggests that arts be developed into the area which can make a contribution to the moderns' emotional fertility through the restoration of vitality.
