드로잉을 통한 은유적 성표현 연구 = 본인의 작품을 중심으로

Abstract

본 논문은 현대 미술에 있어서의 '몸'의 의미를 되새겨보고 인간의 보편적 욕망인 성(性)을 은유적으로 표현해 온 2002년부터 2004년까지의 작품을 중심으로 연구한 논문이다. 이원론은 남성과 여성, 마음과 몸, 능동과 수동, 이성과 감성, 직선과 곡선등의 대립구도를 만들고 양자간 어떤 것이 상대적으로 우월하다는 왜곡된 믿음을 갖게 했다. 그래서 예전에 몸은 정신에 비해 평가 절하되어 왔던 게 사실이고 본능적 욕망과 관련된 신체의 욕구는 억압되어져야 하는 것으로 여겨졌었다. 그러나 영혼을 담은 신체가 현대에 와서는 포스트모더니즘 담론에 의해 '육체와 정신의 이분법', '정신의 육체에 대한 우위' 라는 도식이 해체되면서 미술가들은 금기를 깨고 다양한 방법으로 몸을 표현하고 있다. 본인은 논문에서 내용적인 면과 조형적인 면으로 크게 나누어 논함에 있어 제1장은 20세기 미술에서 몸은 어떻게 표출되었으며, 제2장에서는 몸과 페미니즘에 관하여 고찰함에 있어 여성성에 대하여 뤼스 이리가라이(Luce Irigaray, 1934- , 벨기에, 여성학·정신분석학·언어학자)의 자궁선망과 촉감에 대한 논의와 줄리아 크리스테바(Julia Kristeva, 1941- 프랑스, 설치미술가)의 애브젝션(abjection)) 개념을 통해 여성과 신체를 바라보는 시각에 대해 알아보고, 페미니스트 미술가들의 특성에 대해 간략하게 서술하였다. 그리고 제3장에서는 작품의 조형적 특성에 관한 연구로, 제1?煊【?는 본인 작품에서 조형적 표현 수단으로 이용되는 드로잉의 의미를 되짚어보고 본인의 작품에서 어떻게 표출되었는지 언급하였고, 제2절에서는 자연적인 생명력의 원천인 유기적 형태의 요소를 찾아보고 본인의 작품과 연관성이 있는 작가의 작품을 비교분석해 보았으며, 제3절에서는 성(性) 이미지가 어떻게 표출되고 있는지에 대해 다른 작가와 본인의 작업을 비교해보고 특히 본인의 작업과 부분적으로 유사성이 있는 에바 헤세의 예를 들어 언급하였다. 또한 제4장에서는 앞에서 연구한 내용을 토대로 본인의 개별 작품을 분석하여 이해를 돕고자 한다. 본인의 작품에 있어서 모티프가 되었던 지도의 형상이나 생식기의 표출은 지극히 개인적인 차원에서 접근하고 있지만 내재적 성(性) 이미지를 표현함에 있어 여성으로서의 주체적인 정체성을 모색함으로써 앞으로의 작업에 있어 보다 심도 있는 작업세계를 구축하는 계기로 삼고자 한다.|This study is aimed to reflect the meanings and metaphoric expressions of 'body' in the contemporary art, with a view to identify a theoretical frame for the expressions. Dualism has led us to discriminate between male and female, mind and body, reason and emotion, and straight line and curved line and to confront them with each other. Body has been depreciated in comparison with mind, and bodily demands related to instinctive desires have been suppressed. In contrast, in this age, postmodernism separates body from spirit through the dichotomy of body and spirit, so that the theories of the superiority of mind over body will be disregarded. Such a trend encourages artists to break traditional taboos and express the body in a variety of ways. This study was largely conducted both in a theoretical manner and a formative manner. Chapter 1 relates in which ways the body is represented in the 20^(th) century. Chapter 2 describes Luce Irigaray's discussions on the coveted and sensitive womb in conjunction with the femaleness of body and feminism. (Luce is a Belgian feminist, psychoanalyst, and linguist born in 1934.) It also tells Julia Kristeva's view on females and body from the perspective of abjection and briefly describes the characteristics of feminist artists. (Julia is a French installation artist born in 1941.) Chapter 3 is an investigation into formative characteristics of artistic works. Paragraph 1 mentions the meanings of drawing that is used as means of expression for the present author's works, and how the drawing is utilized in the works. Paragraph 2 identifies organic types of formative factors, which are sources of natural vitality, and compares and analyzes the works of the present author with those of other relevant artists. Paragraph 3 contrasts sex images represented by the present author to those by other artists including Eva Hesse whose works are partially similar to those of the author. Chapter 4 analyzes the works of present author, based on the above-mentioned investigations, so as to make them understood. Shapes of a map and expression of genital organs, which are the motifs for the works of the present author, were approached in a very personal manner, but subjective identity of females in expressing immanent sex images was promoted in order to provide a foothold for further investigations. This thesis is an artistic investigation with a focus on works displayed at a private exhibition of the author in June 2004, chosen from among her works created between 2002 and 2004. The present author hopes that this investigation into the expressions of immanent sex images will be able to contribute to the development of the formative arts.
