다문화 시대에 풍속화를 활용한 비교 감상 수업

Abstract

Nowadays, the Korean society has fast moved into a multi-ethnical or multi-cultural society due to an drastic increase of international marriage and an inflow of foreign workers. Such social changes require the new curriculum that helps young students raise diverse cultural awareness and understand values of various cultures. The purpose of this study is not only to examine artistic characteristics by comparing genre paintings for the Edo period with these of the late Joseon dynasty but also to suggest teaching ways to enhance understanding about different cultures by recognizing the similarities and differences between traditional genre paintings of two countries. This study is composed of six chapters. The first chapter introduced the purpose of this study, methodology, and limitations. The second chapter dealt with the background knowledge about multicultural art education and comparing appreciation of paintings. The third chapter examined historical backgrounds and artistic characteristics of genre paintings for the Edo period of Japan and the late Joseon Dynasty. The fourth explained the ways to appreciate the genre paintings for the Edo period and the late Joseon Dynasty in terms of contents, composition, line-drawing, and coloring. In the fifth chapter, this study suggested teaching guidelines on comparing appreciation of genre paintings for junior high students. Finally, the final chapter summarizes the main key points through the whole study. This study showed that the appreciation education that utilizing genre paintings of another country could be an effective way to facilitate junior high students' understanding about values of diverse cultures and to establish their ethnical identities in the diversified Korean society.
