김요섭 소년소설 연구

Abstract

본고에서는 김요섭의 소년소설 가운데 50년대 후반과 60년대 전반에 창작된 『오 멀고 먼 나라여』(1959), 『물새 발자국』(1964) 두 작품을 통해 김요섭 소년소설의 특질을 살펴보고자 하였다. 『오 멀고 먼 나라여』, 『물새 발자국』이 두 작품은 김요섭의 문학 세계에서 일변화를 꾀했던 한 시기의 작품으로 평가되고 있으며, 주제적 양상 또한 다양한 관점 - 환상적 세계의 지향, 대립적 세계의 표상, 자아 인식의 양상, 인물의 갈등 양상 - 에서 접근해 볼 수 있다. 환상적 세계는 꿈, 피아노, 그림자, 나비의 움직임 등과 같은 매개물을 통해 드러난다. 이들 매개물은 주인공을 환상의 세계로 견인함으로써 현실에서 이루지 못한 소망을 이룰 수 있는 토대를 마련해 준다. 대립적 세계는 빛과 어둠, 선과 악으로 대변된다. 빛은 기억의 연상 작용, 물활론적 생명력의 표현, 감정의 정화 작용으로서의 역할을 수행하고 있으며, 어둠은 침묵과 금기, 소멸과 상실, 내면 세계의 표상으로서의 역할을 수행한다. 선악의 구도 또한 명확히 드러나 있다. 이는 절대적인 선과 악의 대립 구도라기보다는 주인공과 주변 인물들 사이의 입장 차이에서 비롯된 것으로 볼 수 있다. 인물의 자아 인식은 그림자를 통한 자아 인식과 모권 부재에서 비롯된 자아 인식의 두 가지 양상으로 나누어 볼 수 있다. 전자의 자아 인식은 세 차례에 걸쳐 등장하는 그림자를 통해 진정한 자아상을 획득하기까지 역시 세 가지 과정을 거치게 된다. 후자의 자아 인식은 모권 부재에서 비롯되기는 하였으나, 자아 인식의 일변화를 통한 내적 성숙은 다소 미약한 점이 있다. 인물의 갈등 양상은 다음의 세 가지 구도로 나타난다. 어린이 세계에서의 갈등, 어린이 세계와 어른 세계와의 갈등, 어른 세계에서의 갈등이 바로 그것이다. 이러한 갈등 양상은 각기 지향하는 목표를 이루기 위한 투쟁의 과정으로도 해석해 볼 수 있다. 김요섭은 한국아동문학계를 대표하는 작가로서 왕성한 창작활동을 하였다. 따라서 그의 문학 세계를 올바로 평가하기 위해서는 다방면에 걸친 연구가 필요하리라고 본다. 이러한 관점에서 김요섭 문학의 한 부분을 이루고 있는 소년소설 또한 마땅히 논의의 대상이 되어야 할 것이며, 지금까지 연구가 미흡했던 만큼 앞으로 지속적인 연구가 이루어져야 할 것이다.|Hence this study aimed to find out the characteristics through two works, 『Oh, far and far away country』(1959) and『Waterbird’s footmark 』(1964), which are written in the late of 1950’s and the beginning of 1960’s, among his juvenile novel. 『Oh, far and far away country』and『Waterbird’s footmark』, the two works are estimated as novels which he intended to change in his literary world. Also, they can be considered as other sides such as thematic aspects or various views: intentions of fantastic world, symbols of conflicting world phases of self recognition, and complications between characters. Fantastic world is revealed through mediums such as dreams, pianos, shadows, motions of butterflies etc. These mediums offer a basic that is able to fulfill wishes, which are impossible in the real world, by leading main characters into the fantastic world. Conflicting world is represented as the light and the dark or the good and the evil. The light plays roles such as association processes of memory, expressions of hylozoic vitality and emotional catharses while the dark plays roles such as silence and taboo, extinction and loss and symbol of the inner world. The composition of the good and the evil is clearly showed. This can be considered as something derived from different situations between main characters and boundary characters. Self-recognition of characters is divided into two types such as self awareness by shadow and by matronymy’s absence. The former comes to go through three processes till true self image is established by means of shadows appearing over three times. Although the letter is driven from maternal rights’ absence, inner maturity by a drastic change is a little bit weak. Complication situation between characters indicates as three compositions such as complications in children world, troubles between children’s and adults’ world and difficulties in the adult world. Such complications can be analyzed as the process of struggle to achieve each directed goal. Kim, Yo-Sup carried out flourishing creative activity as a writer standing for Korean children's literature community. Therefore, the various researches are required in order to estimate exactly his literary world, Juvenile novel comprising a part of his literature should be the subject of discussion and continuous research should be carried out because of insufficient research till now, judging from this point of view.
