김동인 소설의 여성인물 연구

Abstract

김동인은 한국 근대소설사에 큰 영향을 미친 작가이다. 전근대에 대한 반발로 근대문학을 추구하며 단편소설에 뛰어난 능력을 보여준 동인에 관한 연구는 많이 이루어졌다. 그 중 본고에서 논하고 있는 여성인물들에 대한 연구는 여성들의 윤리면에 비중을 둔 부정적인 견해가 대?觀隙潔駭?. 그것은 시대적 상황과 여성들에 대한 기존 보수적 관점에 의해 구명되었기 때문이라 할 수 있다. 본고는 이런 논의에서 다루지 못한 여성들의 자아발견과 자기정립과정에 대해 보다 면밀히 살펴보았다. 우선 동인이 작품에서 보여준 여성관이 그가 생전에 경험한 여성들과 시대적, 사회적으로 관련이 있다고 보고 그의 생애와 시대적 상황을 알아보았다. 그리고 다음으로 작품들을 분석하여 여성들이 근대적 주체로서 자아를 찾아가는 모습이 어떻게 이루어지는가를 알아보았다. 동인이 작품활동을 시작한 시기는 우리나라의 근대문학이 시작된 시기라 할 수 있다. 동인은 전시대의 계몽적인 문학에서 벗어나 새로운 근대적 문학을 추구하고자 노력했다. 서구문명의 전래와 여성 스스로의 각성에 의해 여성들에게 많은 변화가 일어나기 시작했다. 그러나 변화하는 여성들의 모습은 기존 사회의 관습, 제도에서 벗어나는 행동, 사고로 인해 바라보는 시각은 대부분 부정적이었다. 원만하지 못한 가정생활, 그리고 여성 편력으로 인해 동인의 여성관은 전근대적 성향을 벗어나지 못했다. 동인소설에 나타난 여성인물들의 자아발견의 모습을 알아보기 위해 「감자」. 「눈을 겨우 들 때」. ?린醋遼?. 「김연실전」. 「약한 자의 슬픔」. 「거치른 터」를 대상으로 분석했다. 여성인물들은 자신의 내면에 있는 자신의 모습을 느껴가는 데서 자아찾기를 시작한다. 그리고 관습, 제도의 억압과 개인의 욕망 사이에서 심한 혼란을 겪는다. '엘리자베트, 영애, 복녀, 금패, 연실'은 전근대적인 관습을 부정하며 자신의 삶을 찾으려고 한다. 그런 과정을 거치면서 자아를 발견하려 하지만 현실의 벽에 부딪치게 된다. 사회 현실은 여전히 전근대적인 경향을 벗어나지 못했고, 여성들의 미성숙함에서 오는 실수로 인해 사회적인 비판을 받았기 때문이다. 「눈을 겨우 뜰 때」의 '금패' 「약한 자의 슬픔」의 '엘리자베트' 「거치른 터」의 '영애'는 전근대적 관습, 제도에서 벗어나 내면의 본능적 욕망을 추구하며 현실과 갈등을 한다. 「감자」의 '복녀'는 기존 관습을 부정하고 자기 나름대로 규율을 만들어보려고 했지만 이루지 못했다. 또한 '곰네'는 자신을 희생하며 가정을 지키려고 인내하는 전통적 여성상에서 벗어나지 못했다. 동인작품의 여성인물들은 전근대적 관습에서 벗어나 여성으로서가 아닌 한 인간으로서 자신의 세계를 구축하려고 노력했다. 그러나 이들 여성들은 사회적인 제약, 미성숙한 사고, 시작하는 단계에서 오는 미숙함으로 인해 자신을 중심으로 모든 상황을 이해, 판단, 행동했기에 외부 현실과 부딪치면서 비극적인 결말을 맞는다. 그리고 동인 자신도 '곰네'하는 전통적 여성의 모습을 통해 그의 보수적 여성관의 한계를 드러냈다. 그러나 동인 여성인물들이 보여주는 자아발견의 모습은 자신의 생각에 정직하며 변하고 있음을 보여주고 있다.|Kim, Dong in is a writer who had great influence on the modern novel history of Korea. Dong In who tried to seek modern literature as the opposition against premodern times showed the excellent ability in short story, especially. The study about the short story of Kim, Dong In was made much. As for the studies on female characters that this researcher is discussing in this thesis out of them, negative view was most by emphasizing the moral side of women. It can be said that it is because it was looked from the existing conservative viewpoint about time situation and women. In this thesis, this researcher examined the self-discovery and self-establishment-course of women which failed to be handled in this discussion. First, by considering that the view of women that Dongin showed in his works has relation with the women whom he experienced during his lifetime from the viewpoint of time and society, this researcher examined his lifetime and time situation. And, next, this researcher examined how the form that women find themselves as modern subjects appears by analyzing works. So as to examine the form of self-discovery of women charaters which showed in Dongin novel, this researcher analyzed on the subject of [potato], [in opening eyes with difficulty], [bear family], [life of Kim, Yeon Sill, [sorrow of the weak], and [wild site]. Female characters start to find themselves in feeling their form in their side. And, they feel confusion between the oppression of custom and system and the desire of individual. Elizabeth, Youngae, Bokneo, Keumpe, and Yeonsil try to fine their life, denying premodern custom. They try to find themselves through such course, but they run against the wall of actuality. These could not throw away premodern custom easily and accept modern civilization easily. Because society actuality failed to get out of premodern tendency still and they were criticized socially due to the mistake from the immaturity of women. The female characters of Dongin work made efforts so as to establish their own work as one human being who is not a woman by getting out of premodern custom. But, as these women understood and judged all the situations and acted centering around them selves due to the social restriction, the immature thinking, and the immaturity from starting stage, they run against outside actuality and show tragic end. And, Dongin, himself revealed the limit of his conservative view of women through the form of traditional woman to be bear family. However, the form of self discovery that the women characters of Dongin show is showing the modern from of self-discovery, recognizing that they are frank to their thought and they are human beings.
