A Study on the Survey of Actual State of Korean Music Education at Licensed Music Institute
Abstract
This study is to try to present the effective scheme for the good accomplishment of Korean music education at music institute in the future by examining how Korean music education is made except piano on licensed music institute to be able to contact music most universally. As for study method for study goal, analysis was made by getting the question answer of 100 persons after distributing questionnaires to 120 persons on only the presidents of licensed music institutes at southern area in Seoul through using questionnaire that researcher made. As for analysis method, analysis was made with 95 copies except 5 copies that insincere answer was made out of 100 copies that question answer was made. About the general items of teachers, frequency analysis was made. This researcher examined the difference among groups through cross analysis so as to examine the survey of recognition and actual state for Korean music which is based on general item.
Following result could be obtained on the basis of this study.
First, as for the interest degree of teachers for Korean music, majority or more had interest generally without distinction in accordance with distinction of sex, age, institute career and major.
Second, majority or more showed 'common' as the answer for the knowledge degree of Korean music of teachers. Difference showed in accordance with major. Then, the rate that those who didn't major answered 'We don't know' about Korean music was higher in comparison with those who majored. In case of those who didn't major, they had much interest for Korean music, but they felt that knowledge for Korean music is much insufficient really.
Third, as for the result of survey of actual of Korean music education at music institute, majority of more of teachers were guiding Korean music at institutes. As for the contents of Korean music guidance, sokum and janggu showed much for the most part. Teachers answered traditional children's song or folk song after janggu as the field that they should educate most in the future out of Korean music fields. Thus, it can be seen that the study of subject contents for traditional children's song or folk song is necessary in addition to short bamboo flute and janggu which are being executed now. Most institutes which are executing Korean music education now are educating centering the 4th, 5th and 6th grades at primary school, that is higher grades. So, it can be seen that education should be made by the expansion to wider classes.
Fourth, what are most difficult at the time of guiding Korean music are the insufficiency of knowledge of teachers for Korean music and that they don't know well. Thus, it can be seen that reeducation for teachers is necessary urgently. Students felt difficulty at the time of Korean music lesson due to the insufficiency of study data. But, as for the reaction of students who took Korean music lesson, it can be seen that they felt Korean music joyful and interesting on the whole. If teachers neglected Korean music guidance as their knowledge for Korean music is low, it is important to enable students to receive Korean music education through the reeducation of teachers within prompt days.
Fifth, in case of the institutes which don't educate Korean music, that teachers cannot do Korean music well showed with majority or more, and they wanted to guide Korean music education in the future.
As for the preparation for guidance, that they will guide through short training course was most. Then, it will be economic burden to employ lecturers who majored in Korean music. So, teachers wanted to guide after learning directly.
In accordance with this findings, we should know the importance of education program of music institute which is private institution to be able to contact music most universally and generally. And, teachers at music institutes should study education method for mutually co-operative education in liaison with school education, and they will have to make efforts so as to inform and educate Korean music in which our spirit and emotion dwell as well as Western music.
