Maurice Ravel의 가곡<Cinq mélodies populaires grecques>에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 프랑스의 작곡가인 라벨(Maurice Ravel, 1875～1937)의 <Cinq mélodies populaires grecques (다섯 개의 그리스 민요)>에 대하여 연구한 것이다. 라벨의 음악은 고전주의 정신에 기초를 두고 인상주의 기법을 함께 사용하였다. 고전주의 기법인 견고한 구조, 뚜렷한 선율, 규칙적인 리듬을 사용하고 인상주의 기법으로는 풍부한 화성을 보이며 색채감을 더하였다. 이국정서와 민요에 관심이 많았던 라벨은 다른 나라의 번역시로 곡을 작곡하기도 하였으며 민속적인 선율에 피아노 반주를 첨가하기도 하였다. <Cinq mélodies populaires grecques (다섯 개의 그리스 민요)>는 칼보코레시(M. D. Calvocoressi)가 번역한 그리스 시에 곡을 붙인 것이다. 내용은 사랑, 믿음, 기쁨 등을 담고 있으며 1, 3, 5곡과 2, 4곡은 분위기상 대조적인 분위기를 자아내고 있다. 구조적으로는 단순한 민요조의 성격을 보이지만 라벨은 시의 분위기나 내용, 이미지에 따라 다양한 유형의 피아노 반주를 통하여 표현적으로 구사하고 있다. 선율은 연속적인 동형진행과 반복음을 자주 사용하며 민요의 특징인 장식음도 사용하고 있다. 또한 유럽음악의 모체인 그리스 민요 선법을 사용하고 있다. 음역은 그리 높지 않음 음역으로 작곡되었으며 화성은 일반적으로 3음이 빠진 공허 5도나 단순 옥타브 음정으로 구성되어져 있다. 이 작품은 그리스의 민족적 요소를 반영하는 독특한 선율과 리듬을 사용하고 프랑스어가 갖는 고유의 억양과 잘 접목시켜 시와 음악의 조화를 이룬 작품이라 하겠다.|This study is on the <Cinq mélodies populaires grecques(Five Greek Folk Songs)> by Maurice Ravel(1875∼1937), a French composer. His work is based on the Classicism along with the techniques of the Impressionism. Classicism expresses strong structure, clear melody and regular rhythm, and impressionism shows rich harmony and colorful feelings in his music. He was interested in exotic sentiments and folk songs, and so composed songs founded on translated foreign lyrics and mixed traditional melodies and the piano accompaniment in spots. <Cinq mélodies populaires grecques> conveys love, faith and joy contrasting No. 1, 3, 5 with No. 2, 4 in their atmosphere. In structure, it shows simple folk song style but is very traditional work in view of his expressions on various styles of the piano accompaniment in accordance with lyric's feelings, contents or images. Consecutive same movements and repeated sounds are used frequently and ornaments which is folk song's character are found in melody. He applied traditional Greek folk song's mode known as the parent of European music and proper compass to his work. Harmony generally consists of empty-fifth chord and simple octaves. This work results from harmonizing lyrics with music using unique melody and rhythm from Greek tradition and combined with original French intonation well.
