Johannes Brahms 의 혼성 4성부를 위한 『Zigeunerlieder Op.103』에 대한 반주연구

Abstract

요하네스 브람스(J. Brahms 1833-1897)는 낭만파음악 시대의 신고전주의 작곡가이며 19세기 예술 가곡사에서 독특한 위치를 차지하고 있다. 브람스는 동시대의 개혁파였던 리스트(F. Liszt 1811-1886)와 바그너(R. Wagner 1813-1883) 같이 음악적인 개혁을 추구하기보다는 고전적인 양식과 화성, 선율에 민요적인 요소를 사용하여 평생에 걸쳐 가곡을 작곡하였다. 그는 200여곡이 넘는 가곡을 작곡하였고, 교향곡 및 실내악곡, 합창곡, 독주곡 등 거의 모든 분야에 있어 폭 넓은 창작활동을 하였다. 슈베르트(F. Schubert 1789-1828)와 슈만(R. Schumann 1810-1856)의 뒤를 이어 예술 가곡의 중요한 위치를 차지하는 브람스는 예술가곡의 기초를 민요에 두고, 민요적 요소를 많이 사용하고, 많은 민요들을 번역하여 민요집을 만들었다. 그 중 하나가 본 논문에서 연구하게 될 헝가리 민요를 독일어로 번역하여 만든 『집시의 노래 (Zigeunerlieder Op.103)』이다. 『집시의 노래 (Zigeunerlieder Op.103)』는 헝가리 집시를 소재로 쓴 작품으로 모두 11곡으로 구성된 혼성 4중창곡이다. 본 논문에서는 먼저 브람스의 음악적 배경으로 그의 생애와 작품들을 간략히 살펴보았고, 그의 가곡의 특징과 가곡작품을 자세히 알아보았다. 작품 분석에서는 가사와 형식을 파악하고, 노래 선율, 리듬, 화성, 반주의 특징, 민요적인 색채 등을 자세히 살펴보았다. 또한 이러한 분석을 통해 브람스의 가곡 작곡 양식의 전반적인 특징을 종합하여 고찰하였다.|Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) is a neoclassical composer of the romantist school and takes a unique place in the history of 19th century 'lied' genre. Brahms made use of classical styles and harmonies and folk elements to compose lyrics throughout his career rather than seeking a radical reform as his contemporaries, Franz Liszt(1811-1886) and Richard Wagner(1813-1883) did. He went on to create more than 200 lieds(art songs) as well as many other compositions covering all types of music such as symponies, chamber music and choral music. Brahms who takes an important position in the world of art songs following in the footsteps of Franz Schubert(1789-1828) and Robert Schumann(1810-1856) was deeply interested in the tradition of the German folk music and utilized it in composing his music. It made him a part of the group of composers that included Heinrich Schutz (1585-1672), Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1759), Georg Friedrich Handel (1685-1759), and Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). One of Brahms' such composition is the subject of this treatise, a Hungarian folk song translated into German, The Gypsy Songs (Zigeunerlieder Op. 103). The Zigeunerlieder Op. 103 is representative of music that derives from songs of Hungarian Gypsies and is a quartet composed of a total of 11 songs. Although Brahms later arranged eight of them into separate songs, this treatise deals with all 11 songs in its original form. The Zigeunerlieder Op. 103 is considered to be one of the most colorful compositions among Brahms' works, with all eleven songs following a gallopade 2/4 format, and is consistent in terms of intention and structure in that it expresses Gypsy sentiment and passion. Yet the songs do not exhibit the same color, due to difference in the techniques utilized. However, the simplicity of styles, melodies , rhythm and harmonies makes the songs both easy to like and truly best-loved out of all Brahms' choral music. This work also reveals the spiritual and musical essence of Brahms by virtue of its lavish display of Gypsy character and attributes. I believe analyzing this particular composition (Zigeunerlieder Op. 103) will lead to the understanding of unique character of Brahms' music and hopefully be of good help for efficient accompaniment in actual play.
