G. Mahler 가곡 『Des Knaben Wunderhorn』 예술적 분석연구

Abstract

본 논문은 19세기 후기 낭만주의를 대표하는 작곡가 구스타프 말러(Gustav Mahler, 1860∼1911)의『Des Knaben Wunderhorn(소년의 마술 뿔피리)』에 대한 연구이다. 전 생애동안 말러는 가곡과 교향곡에 특별한 관심을 가지고 작곡하였으며, 교향곡에 성악을 도입하거나 가곡에 관현악 반주를 사용하는 등 가곡과 교향곡을 밀접하게 연관시켰다. 『소년의 마술 뿔피리』는 아르님(Arnim)과 브렌타노(Brentano)에 의해 수집, 편찬된 독일의 민요 설화집「Des Knaben Wunderhorn(소년의 마술 뿔피리)」의 시에 곡을 붙인 것으로 말러는 총 23개의 뿔피리 곡을 작곡하였고, 본 논문에서는 그 중 피아노 반주를 사용하는 뿔피리 3곡과 관현악 반주를 사용하는 뿔피리 3곡을 연구하고자 한다. 이 작품의 분석에 앞서 먼저 후기 낭만주의 독일가곡의 음악적 특징, 말러의 생애와 작품 그리고 민속시집「소년의 마술 뿔피리」에 대하여 소개한 후, 이를 토대로 뿔피리곡의 음악적 특징(형식, 조성, 화성 등)과 시와 음악에 있어 조화를 이루기 위해 사용된 다양한 표현기법 및 melody와 반주의 관계를 살펴보고, 피아노 반주를 사용한 가곡과 관현악 반주를 사용한 가곡을 비교분석해 보고자 한다. 이 분석을 통해 독일리트의 새로운 장을 열어준 말러의 관현악 반주로 편곡된 가곡을 피아노로 반주함에 있어 그에 따른 구체적인 반주법에 관해서도 고찰하고자 한다. 악보는 Dover Publications, Inc. (Mineola, New York) 『Des Knaben Wunderhorn and the Ruckert Lieder for voice and piano』와『Ten Songs from Des Knaben Wunderhorn in Full Score』를 사용하였다.|This thesis is a research of the late 19th century Romantic composer Gustav Mahler (1860-1911)’s, Des Knaben Wunderhorn. Over his lifetime Mahler had special interest in primarily composing lieder and symphonies; Mahler introduced vocal music in symphonies and used orchestral music in lieder to intricately relate the songs with symphonies. The song collection, Des Knaben Wunderhorn is based on a famous set of German folk poems, Des Knaben Wunherhorn(Songs from ‘The Youth’s Magic Horn’) assembled and edited by Arnim and Brentano; Mahler composed twenty three Wunherhorn based songs altogether and this paper will research three songs that use piano accompaniment and orchestral accompaniment each. Before further analysis the paper will introduce the characteristics of late Romantic German songs, Mahler's life and works, and the folk poem Des Knaben Wunherhorn; with this background knowledge this paper will look further into: the musical characteristics (form, tonality, harmony and etc.), the various expression techniques and melodies used to harmonize the connection between poems, and compare/contrast piano and orchestra lieder. This analysis will also contemplate the new chapter of German lieder in which Mahler played piano in the orchestral arrangement and its specific accompaniment ways. The music sheet used will be Des Knaben Wunherhorn and the Ruckert Lieder for voice and piano and Ten Songs from Des Knaben Wunderforn in Full Score by Dover Publications, Inc. (Mineola, New York)
