George Gershwin 의 「Rhapsody in Blue」연구

Abstract

20세기에 들어 음악관의 급격한 변화를 겪게 되면서 전통에서 벗어난 새로 운 것에 대한 추구는 많은 창조적인 음악가들에 의해 개성 있게 시도 되었 다. 이런 새로운 시도 중에 하나가 재즈이며 미국의 대중음악으로 자리 잡았고 현대의 예술음악에 많은 영향을 끼친 중요한 음악이다. 재즈는 세계 제1차 대전 후인 1920년부터 미국에서 널리 유행하였으며 1924년대에 발표된 George Gershwin(1898-1937)의 「Rhapsody in Blue」는 재즈를 휼륭한 것으로 만드는데 기여했다. 그는 재즈와 클래식 음악의 접목시키고자 하는 열망을 가지고 있었는데 이 작품을 통하여 그의 목적이 달성되었다. 본 논문에서 「Rhapsody in Blue」를 분석한 결과, 재즈 요소인 Blue Scale과 화성의 즉흥적이고 자유로운 진행이 나타나고 조성은 기본적인 틀 안에서 움직이고 있음을 알 수 있다. 리듬은 자유롭게 변형되며 syncopation이 곡 전체에 나타난다. 주제가 반복 되어 나타날 때에는 고전 음악에서의 전개의 차원이 아닌 동일한 주제를 변 형시킴으로 재즈에서 나타나는 즉흥적 연주형태를 강하게 보여 준다. 거쉰의 탄생 100주년을 맞이한 해, 그를 기념하기 위한 콘서트가 시카고, 필라델피아, 뉴욕을 비롯한 미국 12개 도시와 캐나다, 영국, 프랑스, 이스라 엘, 포르투갈 등 세계 곳곳에서 성대하게 거행되었다. 이제 20세기 최고의 “팝 클래식(Pop Classic)" 으로 역사에 자리 잡은 거쉰의 「Rhapsody in Blue」의 연구는 20세기 시점에서 그를 재조명 해보는 의미 있는 일이 될 수 있을 것이라고 생각한다.|As traditional style and music view are in great changes in turning to 20C, many creative musicians attempted new pursuit away from tradition with their own uniqueness. Such attempts include jazz which has been firmly settled as popular genre in America and much influenced on modern art music. Jazz was very popular across USA from 1920 immediately after World War I, and 「Rhapsody in Blue」 announced by 1924 by George Gershwin(1898-1937) became jazz standards. He desired to collaborate jazz with classic music and achieved his goal through the composition of 「Rhapsody in Blue」. In the result of analysis of 「Rhapsody in Blue」 in this paper, it was found that the jazz elements such as spontaneous and free style of Blue Scale appeared as well as the harmony in basic patterns. Its rhythm is made in various form and there is syncopation in the entire note. When the theme repeats, it strongly shows spontaneous playing pattern commonly found in jazz, not by developing such in classic music but by varying the same theme. The concerts celebrating Gershwin's 100th birth anniversary, are held on a grand scale, in 12 U.S. cities including Chicago, Philadelphia and New York, as well as in UK, France, Israel, Portugal and so on around the world. Gershwin's 「Rhapsody in Blue」 is now settled as the best Pop Classic in history, and the study on this will be meaningful in shedding new light on Gershwin in the point of 20C.
