Francois Mauriac의 작품에 나타난 환경과 작중인물간의 상관관계 연구 : Therese Dwsqueyroux와 La fin de la Nuit를 중심으로

Abstract

프랑수아 모리악 Francois Mauriac(1885.10~1970.9)은 대서양변에 위치한 보르도 Bordeaux에서 태어났으며 어린 시절과 청소년기를 보낸 보르도와 랑드지방(총칭 기옌느 Guyenne지방)은 그의 문학작품의 영감의 원천으로 자리잡고 있어 「떼레즈 데께루 The´re｀se Desqueyroux」 를 비롯한 많은 다른 소설들의 배경이 되고 었다. 모리악은 생후 20개월에 무신론자인 아버지를 여의고 독실한 카톨릭 신자인 어머니 클레르 모리악 Claire Mauriac과 외할머니에 의해 양육되었다. 이러한 성장배경은 인간의 내면에 잠재되어있는 '악'을 고해함으로써 구원을 받을 수 있는 종교의 기본적인 원리를 작품의 근본정신으로 자리잡게 하였다. 모리악의 기존의 작품에 대한 연구는 일반적으로 종교적인 관점에서 행해졌다. 그러나 본 논문은 「떼레즈 데께루 The´re｀se Desqueyroux」 와 ?많是? 종말 La Fin de la Nuit」 에 나타나고 있는 여주인공 떼레즈 The´re｀se 의 심리에 포커스를 맞추어 뚜렷한 동기가 없는 그녀의 범죄행위의 원인을 밝혀 보고자 인간의 내면에 잠재되어있는 '애증 passion'과 '환경 environnement'과의 상관관계를 살펴봄으로써 환경이 인간의 성격형성과 심리변화에 결정적인 역할을 하고 있음을 분석, 검토한다. 본 논문에서 연구되는 「떼레즈 데께루 The´re｀se Desqueyroux」 와 「밤의 종말 La Fin de Nuit」 에 대해 작가는 비록 서로 연관이 없는 작품이라고 언급하고 있지만 두 작품을 통해 우리는 연속되고있는 떼레즈라는 작중 인물의 일생을 만나게 된다. 연구방법은 「떼레즈 데께루 The´re｀se Desqueyroux」 에서의 '남편 독살'을 '제 1의 범죄'로, 「밤의 종말 La Fin de la Nuit」 에서의 딸 '마리의 행복 독살'을 '제 2의 범죄'로 보고 두 작품에 나타난 여주인공의 범죄 요인을 유전적, 자연적, 지역적, 정신적 환경의 네 가지 요인으로 나누어 분석한다. ＜유전적 요인＞에서는 그녀의 원천적으로 타고난 특성과 부모와 닮아 보이는 성격을 살펴보고 ＜자연적 환경＞에서는 계절이나 기후, 밤과 같은 자연적이며 시간적인 요소가 주?寬坪? 인격형성과 범죄유발에 끼치는 영향을, 그리고 ＜지역적 환경＞에서는 「떼레즈 데께루 The´re｀se Desqueyroux」의 배경이 되고있는 불모지인 아르쥘루즈 Argelouse의 사막적인 환경과 「밤의 종말 La Fin de la Nuit」의 배경이 되고있는 파리 Paris의 군중 속의 고독적인 특징을 중심으로 한 공간적이고 지역적인 요소들을 검토한다. 마지막으로 ＜정신적 환경＞에서는 떼레즈의 가족이나 주변 사람들과의 관계에서 나타나고 있는 그녀의 정신적인 환경을 분석한다. 위의 연구를 통해 우리는 인간이 근본적으로 지니고있는 악이 무의식의 영역에 압축되어 있다가 환경적인 요인을 접할 때 억압 refoulement의 통제를 벗어나 무의식적인 형성 formations de l'inconscient을 통해 자신이 의식하지 못하는 범죄행위로 반사되는 한 유형을 입증할 수 있다.|Frangois Mauriac (1885.10~1970.9) was born in Bordeaux which is located in the Atlantic. He spent his childhood and adolescent period in Bordeaux and Lande (The general name is Guyenne) where he was preoccupied with the source of his literary inspiration, having been the source of the scenery of his different novels including 「The´re｀se Desqueyroux」. When Mauriac was twenty months old, he lost his father who was an atheist, and was raised by his mother, Claire Mauriac, who was a faithful Catholic and his maternal grandmother. This background formed the underlying principles of religion that man can be saved by confessing to the 'evil' hidden in the human mind, the essence of his works. The study on the existing work of Mauriac was generally undertaken from a religious standpoint. But this thesis is focused on the psychology of the heroine, The´re｀se , who is described in 「The´re｀se Desqueyroux」 and 「La Fin de la Nuit」 in order to inquire into the cause of her criminal act without a clear motive. By looking into the relation between the passion that is latent inside the human being and the environment, it analyzes and investigates the fact that the environment has a decisive effect upon the formation of human character and the change in psychology. About 「The´re｀se Desqueyroux」 and 「La Fin de la Nuit」 which are studied to this thesis, even if the author inferred that they weren't mutually related, we can see by the life of the heroine, The´re｀se , it continues in the two works. For the method of study, 'the poisoning of her husband' in 「The´re｀se Desqueyroux」 is considered 'the first crime' and `the poisoning of her daughter, Marie's happiness' in 「La Fin de la Nuit」 is considered `the second crime'. The causes of her crime in the two works are analyzed and divided into four causes ＜the inherited cause＞, ＜the natural environment＞, ＜the regional environment＞, and ＜the mental environment＞. In ＜the inherited cause＞, we look into her character, which looks like her parents and her characteristic, which originate from her. In ＜the natural environment＞, it analyzes the effect that time and natural elements such as season, weather and night, have on the formation of her personality and the induction of her crime. In ＜the regional environment＞, the spatial and regional elements centering around the desert environment of the barren land, Argelouse which forms the background in 「The´re｀se Desqueyroux」 and the loneliness of being part of the crowd in Paris which forms the background in 「La Fin de la Nuit」. Finally, in terms of ＜the mental environment＞, her mental state is presented in relation to her family and the people around her. Through the above study, we can prove what kind of vices human beings originally have, having been condensed into the domain of unconsciousness. When it is close to environmental elements, it escapes oppression's control and through the formations of the unconscious, it is depicted as a criminal act of which a man cannot be conscious.
