Francis Poulenc의 「La Courte Paille」 에 대한 반주 연구

Abstract

프랑시스 뿔렝끄(Francis Poulenc: 1899~1963)는 20세기의 프랑스 예술가곡을 대표하는 작곡가이다. 그는'신고전주의(Neoclassicism)' 1)를 지향하는 '6인조(Les Six)' 의 일원으로 새롭게 변화를 시도하는 20세기의 음악 세계 속에서 전통을 계승하여 발전시킴으로써 자신의 독특한 음악 스타일을 구축하였다. 특히 그의 가곡은 시 해석에 있어서 뛰어난 감각을 보여주는데 전통적인 화성을 바탕으로 한 서정적인 선율과 효과적인 반주의 결합으로 잘 나타나 있다. 본 논제로 택한 그의 마지막 가곡 작품인 「La Courte Paille」(짧은 밀짚)은 모리스 카렘(Maurice Careme: 1899~1977)의 시에 의해 쓰인 모음곡으로 그의 오페라에 출연했던 소프라노 데니스 듀발(Denise Duval)의 여섯 살 난 아들을 위해 1960년에 작곡한 곡이다. 모두 7곡으로 되어 있으며, 대부분 길이가 짧은 어린이를 위한 동요적인 유형의 곡들이다. 이 작품은 서정적 선율과 간결한 리듬의 사용으로 단순함과 간결미가 돋보이는 뿔렝끄의 특징을 잘 나타내 주고 있으며 특히 어린이들의 흥미를 유발시키기 위한 다양한 음악 기법들이 사용되고 있어 만년의 숙련된 작곡 기량을 잘 보여 주고 있다. 본 논문에서는 뿔렝끄의 생애와 작품 경향 그리고 가곡의 일반적 특징을 알아보고 「La Courte Paille」의 반주를 중심으로 한 작품 분석을 통하여 그의 음악적 스타일을 이해하며 나아가 실질적인 연주에 반영하고자 한다.|Francis Poulenc(1899~1963) is a contemporary French composer who stands for French art song works composed in the 20th century. As a member of 'Les Six(Sextet)' who were oriented to ‘Neoclassicism’, he inherited and developed valuable musical tradition within the musical sphere of 20th century in attempts for new change and thereby built up his own original music style successfully. Specifically, his songs reveal his outstanding senses in poetic interpretation, which are demonstrated in the combination of lyrical melodies based on traditional harmony and effective accompaniment. “La courte paille(The short straw)", the last one of Poulenc's songs selected as the topic hereof is a suite composed along with lyric written by Maurice Careme(1899~1977). It was originally composed in 1960 for the sake of a 6-year-old son of soprano Denise Duval who once performed on his opera. This suite consists of 7 songs altogether, most of which are songs with short length in the form of nursery rhyme for children. It demonstrates Poulenc' s own characteristics represented by simplicity and laconism of lyric melodies and concise rhythms. Notably, this suite attempts so various musical techniques that may motivate the interest from children, which well proves the ripe compositional skills of Poulenc in his last years.
