Fashion Look 유형에 따른 여성 정치인의 외모 이미지 연구

Abstract

현대사회는 매스미디어의 발달로 이미지의 중요성이 날로 증가하고 있다. 특히 외모 이미지는 사람을 인지하고 수용하는 매우 중요한 요소로 알려져 있다. 최근 여성정치인이 우리사회에서 두각을 나타내고 있으며 그들에 대한 관심이 증대되고 있다. 따라서 유권자들이 여성 정치인의 이미지를 어떻게 인지하고 수용하고 파악하는지는 매우 흥미롭고 중요한 문제라 하겠다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 여성정치인의 외모이미지가 어떤 요인으로 이루어져 있으며, 유권자에게 어떻게 인지되고 수용되며 나아가 유권자 집단이 선호하는 패션 룩(Fashion Look)유형과 이것이 어떻게 외모이미지가 좋은 여성정치인에게 투표를 통한 지지로 이어질 수 있는가에 대해 알아보고자 본 연구를 진행하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 여성 정치인의 외모이미지 수용태도에 관한 연구에 초점을 두고 유권자가 여성정치인을 실제로 인식하고 받아들이는 과정을 분석하고자 연구 모델을 설계하였다. 본 연구에서 도출된 모델은 여성정치인 외모이미지 수용모델(PAAM: Politician Appearance Acceptance Model)이라고 명명하였다. 이 모델에 따라 본 연구에서는 외모 이미지의 요인을 설정하고 그 수용에 대해 성별, 연령별, 직업별, 학력별, 지역별, 인구통계학적 견지에서 분석하였으며, 특히 패션 룩(Fashion Look) 유형 이미지에 따른 외모이미지 수용태도와 고유 외모이미지 선호도 및 투표결정에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 연구목적에 맞는 연구방법으로 설문지에 의한 조사연구 방법을 이용하였다. 피험자는 20대에서 50대까지의 남녀를 연령, 학력, 거주지, 직업을 고려하여 편의표집 하였으며, 총 응답자는 706명이었다. 설문지의 구성은 첫째로 피험자의 인적 사항에 관한 부분과 둘째 외모이미지 인지요소인 메이크업, 헤어, 패션, 색 네 부분에서의 피험자의 외모 이미지 형성에 미치는 영향 정도에 대한 질문으로 구성하였고, 셋째 패션 룩 유형의 4가지 이미지 요소인 로맨틱, 내추럴, 드라마틱, 크래식 스타일이 외모 이미지 형성에 미치는 영향 정도에 대한 질문이었으며, 넷째로 외모 이미지의 각 요인들이 외모이미지 수용태도에 어떤 영향을 끼치는지에 관한 질문이 포함되었다. 마지막으로 정치인의 자질인 지도력, 청렴성, 결단력에 대한 선호도와 외모이미지 수용태도가 고유 외모이미지 선호도와 행동에 미치는 영향과 투표결정시 외모이미지에 대한 정치인의 자질에 대한 고려정도에 관한 질문으로 구성하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다 첫째, 외모이미지를 구성하는 요소로 설정했던 메이크업, 헤어, 패션, 색 등이 모두 외모이미지의 구성요소로써 의미 있게 나타났다. 네 가지 구성요소 중에서 색이 외모이미지 수용태도에 가장 큰 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났으며, 메이크업, 패션, 헤어스타일 순으로 나타났다. 이는 정치인으로서 유권자들에게 주는 외적 이미지는 색에 의해 가장 크게 형성될 수 있음을 알 수 있다. 또한 외모이미지 구성요로서 설정한 4가지 패션 룩 유형은 요인분석을 통해서 모두 의미 있는 요인으로 나타났다. 이들 중 외모이미지 수용태도에 가장 큰 영향을 준 요인은 클래식이었으며, 내추럴, 로맨틱, 드라마틱 순으로 외모이미지 구성에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 아직 우리나라는 여성 정치인에게 과감하거나 혁신적인 면보다는 격식을 갖추는 여성 정치인 상을 선호한다고 할 수 있다. 둘째, 패션 룩 유형에 따른 외모이미지 수용태도를 성별, 직업별, 지역별, 연령별로 분석을 하였다. 여자에 있어서는 네 가지 모두에서 외모이미지 수용태도에 긍정적 영향을 미친 반면, 남자에 있어서는 내추럴한 패션 룩(Fashion Look)유형은 외모이미지 수용태도에 영향을 미치지 못하였다. 연령별로 살펴보면 모든 연령대에서 클래식한 패션 룩(Fashion Look)유형이 선호되었으며, 개성이 강한 20대 유권자는 드라마틱에 대한 선호도가 높았으며, 40대 유권자들은 로맨틱한 유형을 선호하는 점이 특이할 만 하였다. 셋째, 여성 정치인의 자질 선호도와 외모이미지 수용태도가 고유 외모이미지 선호도에 미치는 영향에 대한 분석에 따르면, 여성 정치인의 자질 선호도 중 지도력 선호도가 결단력이 고유 외모이미지 선호도에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다고 나타났으며, 청렴성은 고유 외모이미지 선호도에 영향을 미치지 않는다고 나타났다. 이는 청렴성이 고유 외모이미지 선호도에 미치는 영향이 없다는 것 보다는 대부분의 여성 정치인이 남성 정치인에 비해서 청렴한 이미지를 갖고 있기 때문에 이러한 결과가 나온 것으로 판단된다. 하지만 지도력과 결단력 또한 고유 외모이미지 선호도에 미치는 영향이 크게 나타 않은 것으로 보아 이외에 다른 자질의 선호도가 영향이 많이 있음을 의미한다 하겠다. 또한 외모이미지 수용태도가 적극적인 유권자일수록 여성 정치인에게 고유한 외모이미지 필요하다고 생각하는 결과를 알 수 있었다. 넷째, 유권자들의 이미지 선호도가 높은 여성 정치인은 박 근혜 의원 이었으며 다음으로 강 금실 전 장관, 추 미애 의원, 박 영선 의원 순으로 나타났다. 박 근혜 의원은 40대와 50대에서 외모 이미지 선호도가 높게 나타났으며 클래식, 내추럴, 로맨틱 이미지에 대한 선호를 보이는 사람일수록 여성 정치인 박근혜의 외모 이미지를 긍정적으로 평가하였다. 강 금실 전 장관은 20대와 30대의 연령대에서 선호도 높았으며, 클래식한 스타일을 선호하는 사람이 강금실 전 장관의 외모 이미지를 긍정적으로 인지하고 있었다. 여성 정치인 추 미애는 20대의 선호도가 다른 연령대 에서 비해 상대적으로 높게 나타나고 내추럴한 패션스타일을 선호하는 사람들의 선호도가 높았다. 여성 정치인 박 영선은 30대에서 지지도가 높게 나타났으나 특별한 패션 룩(Fashion Look)유형의 선호도에 따른 지지도에는 차이가 없었다. 다섯째, 외모이미지 수용태도와 정치인의 자질 선호도가 유권자의 투표에 미치는 영향에 대하여 분석한 결과, 외모이미지 수용태도가 높은 유권자일수록 외모이미지가 투표에도 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 특히 외모이미지 수용태도 중에서 여성 정치인이 외모이미지에 신경을 써야한다고 생각하는 유권자일수록 외모이미지가 투표에 미치는 영향이 크게 나타났다. 연령과 최종학력을 통한 분석한 결과를 보면 40대와 50대 유권자들과 최종학력이 비교적 낮은 유권자일수록 외모이미지가 좋은 여성정치인에 대한 선호정도가 높았다. 반대로 나이가 젊고 고학력자일수록 외모이미지보다는 정치인의 자질에 좀 더 비중을 두고 투표한다는 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 그리고 정치인의 자질 선호도 중에서 청렴성 보다는 지도력과 결단력의 선호도가 투표결정에 영향을 미치는 결과에 비추어 보면 여성 정치인은 부드러움보다는 결단력, 지도력 같은 적극적이고 능동적인 모습을 보이는 것이 또한 중요하다고 하겠다. 이상에서 본 연구에 대한 제언은 다음과 같다. 여성 정치인을 인식하고 판단하고 투표하는 일련의 행위는 외모이미지와 정치인의 자질에 의해 이루어진 종합된 이미지를 통해서 이루어짐을 확인할 수 있었다. 그리고 외모수용태도와 정치인의 자질은 모두 고유 외모이미지 선호도와 투표결정에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며 이는 정치인의 자질과 더불어 외모 이미지의 관리가 여성 정치인으로서의 생명에 있어서 중요한 요소라고 할 수 있다. 따라서 여성 정치인들은 유권자에게 긍정적인 인식을 심어주기 위해서 적극적인 외적 이미지에 대한 관리가 필요하며, 이런 노력은 개인적인 취향이나 감각에 의존하는 것이 아니라 과학적이고 합리적인 분석에 의한 접근을 함으로써 달성될 수 있다고 판단되며, 본 연구는 그런 과학적인 접근의 중요한 초석이 될 수 있으리라 여겨진다.|The importance of image is increasing with the development of mass media nowadays. Especially, appearance image is a crucial factor to recognize and accept a person. Recently, female politicians gain popularity and social issue. It may be a interesting topic to evaluate how the citizen recognize and accept the female politician. It is started to find out a solution for the following research questions: how does a citizen recognizes the appearance of a female politician?; how does the appearance image of a female politician has an effect on the voting of a citizen? In order to carry out this research, we have focused on a citizen's acceptance for a female politician's appearance anddesigned a research model, entitled as (PAAM: Politician Appearance Acceptance Model) by analyzing the process that a citizen (a voter) recognizes and understands a female politician. According to this model, this study deals with not only the citizen's acceptance of a female politician classified by sex, age, education, and region, but also the appearance influence on the voting. In order to perform this, we investigated a voter's reaction on the appearance of a female politician according to fashion look style and used a statistics approach such as cross analysis and the regression method as a methodology. We composed the questionnaire for male and female from 20's to 50's ages and selected the voters by considering age, education, resident place, and occupation. Sampling was 706 people. Questionnaire is composed of the demographic characteristics, the appearance image factor, fashion style factor, politician's qualification, voter's acceptance, and voter's behavior. Appearance image covers the make-up, hair, fashion, and color. Fashion style is classified as four types such as classic, natural, romantic, and dramatic style. Also we consider the leadership, uprightness, and determination for the politician quantification. The research contributions are as follows. Firstly, the appearance image factors such as make-up, hair, fashion, and color have the strong correlation with the voter's acceptance of a female politician. Among these, color factor is proven as the greatest fact and make-up, fashion, hair style by the order of importance. This results suggest that politician should be focused on the color to make their own appearance image. In addition, the analysis result of fashion look style is given in the following regular sequence: classic, natural, romantic, and dramatic, and is shown a close relationship with the voter's acceptance of a female politician. Classic look have a greatest impact on the acceptance of female politician's appearance image. This means that citizen is relatively conservative in considering the female politician who should be elegant than active or radical. Secondly, the citizen's attitude to the appearance image acceptance according to fashion looks was analyzed based on the sex, occupation and region. These four fashion looks have a positive impact on the women's attitude, but natural fashion look does not have effect on the men's attitude. To the detail based on age, classic fashion look was supported from all ages, but dramatic fashion look from the twenties and romantic from the forties. Thirdly, according to the analysis on the relationship between the preference in female politician's qualification as their own unique features and the citizen's attitude to the appearance image acceptance, leadership and determination showed the positive influence on the citizen's preference in the female politician's unique features. Although uprightness did not affect on the citizen's preference, this is probably because most of the female politician may be regarded uprighteous compared with the male politician. Low impact power of leadership and determination showed that other unknown qualification factors may be more important to influence on the citizen's preference. In addition, the more the voters feel friendly to the attitude to the appearance image acceptance, the more they think female politician should have their own unique features. Fourthly, it is investigated that a Mrs. Keun-Hei Park gets the highest voter's score among female politicians of the republic of Korea. Keum Sil Kang, Mi Ae Chu and Young Sun Park gets a high score by the order of high score. It means that the image of Mrs. Keun-Hei Park represents a female politician with the characteristic of classical appearance. Keun-Hei Park had higher point from the forties and fifties in terms of the preference in the appearance image and the citizens with preference in the classic, natural and romantic fashion look.. Keum-Sil Kang gained high score from the twenties and thirties and from the voters who favor the classic fashion look. The voters who are in the twenties and favor natural fashion look showed preference to Mi-Ae Chu. Young Sun Park was supported from the thirties who showed no differences in preferences among fashion looks. Fifth, from analysis on the effect of the citizen's attitude to appearance image acceptance and the preference to the female politician's qualification on the voter's behavior, the higher the citizen accept the attitude to the appearance image acceptance, the more appearance image impacts on the voter's behavior. the citizen who think female politician should pay attention to the appearance image showed strong correlation with the their behavior to vote. The citizen in the forties or fifties and in the lower educational class showed the preference in female politician who have better appearance image. Highly educated citizen evaluate the female politician in terms of qualification than appearance image. From the analysis about the favored qualifications as female politician, leadership and determination gained higher score suggest that female politician should behave actively and dynamically instead of smoothly and gently. This results is interesting thinking of the favored fashion look of female politician. This study can show follow suggestions from above results. Citizen's behavior to vote after decision from the perception of female politician is based on the combined image of appearance image and political qualification. The attitude to appearance image acceptance and political qualification have a positive effect on the preference of the their own unique feature and the citizen's behavior to vote, which suggest that appearance image is important to improve the political power of female politician. Thus, female politician should pay attention to the appearance image. This approach should not be based on the private preference , but based on the scientific and rational process. Definitely, this study was designed to fulfill the purpose of the last comment and can be a cornerstone in female politician's image strategy.
