Emily Dickinson 시에 부친가곡 Heart, We will forget him! 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 에밀리 디킨슨(Emily Dickinson,1830-1886)의 동일시 Heart, We will forget him!을 가사로 채택한 아론 코플란드(Aaron Copland, 1900-1990), 존 듀크(John Wood Duke, 1899-1984), 아서 파웰(Arthur Farwell, 1872-1952)의 가곡을 비교 연구하였다. 본론에서는 먼저 19세기 미국 시문학의 배경을 통해 에밀리 디킨슨의 생애와 시의 특징을 조명해보고 본 논문에서 다루어질 디킨슨의 시 Heart, We will forget him! 을 살펴보겠다. 그리고 난 후 전체적인 미국 예술가곡의 흐름과 더불어 코플란드와 듀크, 파웰의 생애와 그들의 음악적 특징이 작품을 통해 어떻게 나타났는지 알아보겠다. 결론적으로 디킨슨의 시에서 보여지는 억양과 강세를 각 작곡가들이 서로 다른 음악적 소재와 다양한 표현방법으로 작곡한 작품들을 통해 그들의 개성과 특징이 다양한 음악양식으로 나타남을 알아보고자 한다. 본 논문을 위해 사용된 악보는 12 Poems of Emily Dickinson, A. Copland, Boosey&Hawkes 6 Poems by Emily Dickinson, J. Duke, Southern Music Publishing co. Inc, New York 34 Songs on Poems of Emily Dickinson Songs, A. Farwell, Boosey& Hawkes 이다.|This dissertation is a written investigation about Aaron Copland (1900-1990), John Wood Duke (1899-1984), and Arthur Farwell (1872-1952)’s song, which has a theme of Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)’s poem, ‘Heart, We will forget him!’. First of all, Emily Dickinson’s life and overall characteristic of her poem was researched through the background of nineteenth century American literature. Also, Dickinson’s poem ‘Heart, We will forget him!’ was carefully examined. Moreover, Copland, Duke and Farwell’s life with overall American art song’s flow and how intonation and accent in Dickinson’s poem is expressed differently in their works was organized in the dissertation. Three composers each expressed their individuality with Dickinson’s poem ‘Heart, We will forget him!’. In Copland’s work, the poem is lyricized with systematical structure. On the other side, Duke’s work passionately expressed painful and insecure mind with dramatic expressions such as ff or accent, and minor scale. Lastly, Farwell’s work compared to others has short and brief structure, but slow progress with continuous minor chord gives quiet and heavy atmosphere.
