Benjamin Britten의 연가곡 「On This Island, Op.11」의 분석과 반주 연구

Abstract

Benjamin Britten (1913-1976)은 영국태생으로 당대의 영국 음악가들 중에서도 작곡가로서, 그리고 연주자로서 뛰어났던 인물이다. 피아니스트(특히 반주자)로서의 능력과 그 자신의 음악뿐 아니라 다른 작곡가들의 음악까지도 훌륭히 해석할 수 있는 능력을 가진 Britten은 전 생애에 걸쳐서 성악곡, 교향곡, 관현악곡, 실내악곡, 오페라, 발레음악, 종교음악등 수 많은 작품을 남겼으나 90여곡에 달하는 그의 성악작품들은 20세기 영국의 성악음악을 발전시키는데 큰 공헌을 하였다. 그의 작품에는 영국 음악과 영국 민요의 전통위에 현대적 음악 감각이 더하여졌고 간결한 형식미와 명쾌하고 세련된 선율을 특징으로 하고 있다. 영국시가 갖는 아름다움을 최대한 그의 음악에 담아내고자 하였고 음악을 매체로 하여 시의 뉘앙스를 보다 감각적으로 승화시키고 있다. 또한 반주부의 기능을 살려서 성악선율과 대등한 위치로 다루고 있는 것이 Britten의 음악적 특징이다. 본 논문에서는 Britten의 성악작품중에서도 연가곡을 중심으로 그의 음악적 특징을 알아본 후, 전 5곡으로 이루어진 연가곡 「On This Island, Op.11」의 작품분석을 통하여 이 곡에 나타나는 Britten의 음악 어법과 작곡기법을 연구하였다.|Benjamin Britten(1913-1976) was an excellent figure as a composer and performer out of the British musicians of the day as a person born in England. Britten to have the ability as a pianist(especially, accompanist) and the ability to be able to interpret the music of other composers as well as his own music greatly left numerous works such as vocal music, symphony, orchestral music, chamber music, opera, ballet music, and sacred music etc. over his whole life, but his vocal music works to amount to 90 musics or so. contributed toward the vocal music of England of the 20th century greatly. His work added modern music sense on the tradition of British music and British folk song, and it is characterized by clear and refined melody in addition to concise formal beauty. He tried to include the beauty that British poem has in his music to the utmost, and he is subliming the nuance of poem more sensibly through the medium of music. Besides, it is the musical feature of Britten to handle at the position to be equal to vocal music melody by giving life to the function of accompaniment. In this thesis, this researcher tries to conclude the musical feature of Britten which appears in this music through the work analysis of the song cycle to be composed of whole 5 musics 「On This Island, Op.11」, after examining his musical feature centering around song scycle out of the vocal music works of Britten.
