20세기 전반 영국음악 경향과 피아노 음악 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 보웬과 백스의 《토카타》 작품 분석 연구를 통하여 영국의 20세기 전반 음악 경향과 피아노 음악을 고찰하여 영국의 음악사적 가치를 재조명하고자 하였다. 먼저 세기전환기부터 20세기 전반까지의 영국의 음악사를 개괄하여 영국의 작곡가들을 제1세대 제2세대 제3세대로 분류하여 음악적 흐름을 살펴보았다. 그 후 제2세대에 해당하는 작곡가 보웬(York Bowen)의 《토카타》작품을 통하여 20세기 전반 영국음악 흐름과의 영향 관계를 살펴보았다. 먼저 보웬의 피아노 음악 창작 경향을 알기 위해 작품들을 장르별로 구분하였고 그에 따른 창작관을 확인하였다. 그 후 《토카타》 작품에서 발견되는 형식, 변형, 확장 그리고 예상치 못한 음형 출현 순서 등을 통하여 작품의 특징을 발견하고 그의 음악관과 연결하여 해석하였다. 그리고 작품분석에 앞서 토카타라는 장르의 발달사를 살펴보아 바로크 이후의 토카타의 장르적 변천과 특징을 알아보고 20세기의 토카타의 산물을 마주하였다. 동시대의 영국 작곡가인 백스(Arnold Bax)가 창작한 같은 장르의 《토카타》작품을 함께 분석함으로써 20세기 전반의 토카타의 흐름을 재확인하였다. 또한 이러한 과정은 영국의 음악적 흐름을 균형 있는 관점으로 바라보는데 도움을 주었으며 영국의 20세기 음악적 경향이 그들의 작품과 밀접하게 관련 있음을 확인하였다.|This paper attempted to reexamine the historical value of British music by examining British musical trends and piano music in the first half of the 20th century through an analysis of Bowen and Baxs' Toccata. First, the history of British music from the turn of the century to the first half of the 20th century was outlined, and British composers were categorized into the first, second, and third generations and examined their musical trends. Afterwards, the influence relationship with the flow of British music in the first half of the 20th century was examined through the work “Toccata” by Bowen, a second-generation composer. First, in order to understand Bowen's tendency to create piano music, the works were classified by genre and his creative outlook was confirmed accordingly. Afterwards, the characteristics of the work were discovered through the form, transformation, expansion, and unexpected order of sound appearance found in the work 《Toccata》 and interpreted in connection with his view of music. Before analyzing the work, we looked at the development history of the Toccata genre, looked into the genre changes and characteristics of the Toccata after the Baroque, and encountered the products of the Toccata in the 20th century. The trend of Toccata in the first half of the 20th century was reaffirmed by analyzing another work of the same genre, 《Toccata》 created by Baxs, a contemporary British composer. In addition, we looked at Baxs' life and classified his works by genre to confirm his creative outlook. By further studying Baxs, a British composer of the same period, I was able to view British musical trends from a balanced perspective. Accordingly, by analyzing Baxs' 《Toccata》 work and looking at its characteristics, combined with Bowen's 《Toccata》 study, it was confirmed that British 20th century musical trends are closely related to their works.
