사회과를 통한 인성교육의 현실과 과제

Abstract

본 연구는 사회과교육을 통한 인성 함양 방안을 모색하기 위한 기초작업으로서, 전문가 델파이 조사를 통해 사회과의 인성교육 관련 요소를 탐색하고, 사회과 인성교육의 실태와 문제점 및 대응 방안에 대한 논의를 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 델파이 조사 결과, 전문가들은 중학교 사회과 교육과정 중 차별이나 갈등, 인권 침해, 사회 문제, 삶의 터전 등의 주제가 참여, 협동, 평화 등과 같은 인성요소와 연계될 수 있다는 점을 언급하였다. 또한, 지식 중심 교육, 사회과 시수 부족, 사회과 인성교 육 자료 부족, 사회과 인성교육 지원 체제 미비 등을 사회과 인성교육의장애 요인으로 제시하였다. 이러한 조사 결과를 토대로, 본 연구에서는 사회과 교육과정에서 인성 요소를 부각시키고 활용할 필요가 있다는 점, 일상적인 사회과 수업에서 다양한 교수⋅학습 방법을 활용해야 한다는 점, 사회과 교사 차원에서 인성교육을 고려한 교육과정 및 수업 재구성 노력을 실천해야 한다는 점, 교육 당국 차원에서 사회과 인성교육 활성화를 위해 지원하고 독려해야 한다는 점, 사회과 교사의 인성 친화적 발언과 태도가 중요하다는점 등을 제안하였다

This study was conducted as an effort to make strategies for character building through social studies education, and its purposes were to identify elements related to character education through social studies and analyze the current state of character education through social studies, its problems, and solutions through an expert Delphi survey, and to discuss the outcomes of the analysis. According to the results of the Delphi survey, the experts mentioned that content elements such as discrimination, conflict, infringement of human rights, social issues, and base of life in the middle school social studies curriculum might be associated with character elements such as participation, cooperation, and peace. In addition, they pointed out obstacles to social studies character education such as knowledgecentered education, lack of social studies class hours, poor materials for social studies character education, and inadequate systems to support social studies character education. Based on these results, this study suggested that character elements should be spotlighted and utilized in the social studies curriculum, that various teaching-learning methods should be applied in social studies classes, that the curriculum and teaching should be restructured in consideration of social studies teachers’ character education, that the activation of social studies character education should be supported and encouraged by educational authorities, and that social studies teachers’ character-friendly words and attitude are important.
