반대 심문식 토론을 통한 논증 구조의 변화 양상

Abstract

이 논문에서는 학생들이 작성한 주장하는 글의 분석을 통해서, 토론이 글의 논증 구조에 어떠한 영향을 끼치는지에 대해서 살펴보았다. 토론이 가지고 있는 장점이 주장하는 글의 구조에도 영향을 끼쳤다. 학생들은 주장과 연결되는 적절한 근거를 제시하려고 하였다. 또한 토론에서 상대에게 확인질문, 답변, 반론 등의 과정을 거치면서, 주장하는 글에도 상대에 대한 고려가 많이 반영되었다. 토론 후 작성한 글은 툴민의 논증 모형과 유사하였다. 주장하는 글이 단순히 자신의 생각을 표출하는 것이 아니라 주장의 정당성을 바탕으로 해서 상대를 설득시키는 데에까지 나아가는 글이라고 했을 때, 상대에 대한 고려는 주장하는 글의 필수적인 요소라고 할 수 있다. 상대에 대한 고려는 ‘상대 주장이나 근거에 대한 언급’, ‘상대 주장에 대한 반박’ 등으로 나타났다. 이를 통해서 논증 구조가 좀 더 체계적이고 논리적으로 되었다.

In this paper, by analyzing students' persuasive writing, I examined how the power of debate have influenced on the argument structure of writing. It appeared that the advantage of debate had an effect on structure of writing. Students tried to present appropriate evidences that were connected with the claim. Also their writing could include much consideration of others by the process of confirmation question, answer, objection during their debate. After debate, students' writings were similar to Toulmin’s Argument Model. We need to consider that the purpose of persuasive writing is not just to express one's opinion but to persuade others by justifying one's argument. So considering others is an essential element in argument writing and it appeared through reference on other's assertion or reason, retort to other's claim. That way, argument structure of writing became more systematic and logical.
