A study on the effects of association strenth in retrieval processes
Abstract
본 연구에서는 연합강도의 차이에 의해 回想率이 영향을 받는 것인지 아닌지를 규명하고, 인출과정을 설명할 수 있는 타당한 원리를 좀 더 확실하게 고찰하고 있다.
1. The purpose of this experiment is to varify if the strength of association increases recall. 2. For the above purpose, the experimental procedure was as follows; 1) For one condition, subject learn the strongly associated pairs of input cue-target word in which input cues are strongly associated with the extralist recall cues but target words are associated rather weakly with recall cues. 2) For another condition, subjects learn the weakly associated pairs of input cue-target word. However the input cue-recall cue association strength and the target word-recall cue association strength are the same as the above condition. 3) After learning the lists of the word pairs, all subjects in both conditions are tested for recall, generation and recognition of target words with the same recall cues and they are tested for the formations of recall cue-input cue-target word chain. 3. The number of subjects are 80 college students of education major. 4. According to the results of the experiment, the strength of association affects neither recall, generation, and recognition of the target words nor the formation of recall cue-input cue-target word chain. 5. The possible conclusions are as follows: 1) Recall is not affected by the strength of association. 2) It seems to be inappropriate to explain the retrieval process in the light of associationism. 3) As the findings in this experiment and other similar experiments have shown, it might be more appropriate to explain the retrieval process with the generation-recognition principle.
