중국어 인터넷 유행어 ‘X刺客’ 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 2022년부터 중국 인터넷에서 널리 유행하기 시작한 ‘X刺客’ 유형의 신조어를 연구하는 데 목적이 있다. ‘刺客(자객)’이란 단어는 춘추전국시대에 이미 등장했으며, 사전적 의미는 ‘무기를 소지하고 암살 활동을 하는 사람’이다. 그러나 최근 등장한 ‘雪糕刺客(아이스크림자객)’과 그로부터 파생된 일련의 ‘X刺客’ 단어들은 ‘암살자’와는 전혀 다른 맥락에서 사용되며, 단순히 어근의 결합만으로는 그 뜻을 이해하기 어려운 경우가 많다. 예컨대 ‘雪糕刺客’은 사람이 아니고 예상보다 비싼 가격으로 소비자를 놀라게 하는 아이스크림을 의미한다. 이러한 신조어는 ‘刺客’이 가진 은밀함, 예상치 못함, 충격 등 의미 특성을 사물이나 상황, 사람에게도 확장하여 사용하고 있다는 점에서 흥미롭다. 따라서 본 연구는 이러한 배경에서 ‘X刺客’ 유행어의 출현과 확산 과정을 분석하였다. 먼저 ‘刺客’의 기본적 의미와 전통적 사용에 대해 살펴 본 다음, 인터넷 유행어 ‘X刺客’에 대하여 화용적 의미 사용과 의미의 일반화 과정을 분석하였다. 마지막으로 이러한 표현이 널리 유행하게 된 원인에 대해서도 언어 내적 요인과 언어 외적 요인으로 나누어 고찰하였다. 인터넷은 신조어 창조와 확산에 유리한 환경을 제공하며, ‘X刺客’은 대중적 관심 속에서 현대 중국어 어휘 체계의 중요한 요소로 자리 잡았다. 본 논문은 ‘X刺客’ 신조어를 보다 깊이 이해하고 현대 중국어의 어휘적 변화를 살펴보는 데 기여할 것으로 기대한다.

This study examines the emergence and spread of the buzzword ‘X刺客.’ It explores the basic meaning and traditional usage of the term ‘刺客’ (assassin), its evolution into the internet neologism ‘X 刺客,’ and the process of its semantic generalization. The word ‘刺客’ originally appeared during the Warring States period, denoting a person who carried weapons to perform assassinations. However, in recent years, expressions such as ‘雪糕刺客’ (Ice Cream Assassin) and other derivative forms of ‘X 刺客’ have been widely adopted in entirely different contexts. These expressions are often difficult to interpret through simple morphemic analysis, as they extend the connotations of ‘刺客,’ including secrecy, unpredictability, and impact; to objects, situations, or individuals. This research identifies internal linguistic factors and external sociocultural factors that have contributed to the widespread popularity of these expressions. The Internet, as a dynamic and conducive environment, facilitates the creation and dissemination of such neologisms. Amidst growing public interest, the term ‘X 刺客’ has become an integral part of the modern Chinese lexicon. The findings of this study provide insights into the linguistic and cultural significance of ‘X刺客,’ contributing to a deeper understanding of its role in the evolution of modern Chinese vocabulary.
