가톨릭 신앙의 정치적 차원에 관한 로메로 대주교의 사상

Abstract

오스카 로메로 대주교는 엘살바도르의 민주화 과정에 헌신했다. 재임 기간 3년동안 군사독재의 폭력으로 고통받는 가난한 자들의 편에서 비폭력 투쟁을 이끌었다. 작년은 엘살바도르 내전(1981-1992)이 끝난 지 30년이 되는 해였다. 그리고 2019년 나이브 부켈레(Nayb Bukele)가 제46대 대통령에 당선되면서 양당 체제에서 벗어나 새로운 중도주의의 길로 들어섰다. 본 연구는 오스카 로메로 대주교의 신앙이 정치적 차원에서 변화하는 과정을 재조명한다. 그는 원래 보수적인 신앙의 소유자였다. 그의 변화는 엘살바도르 가톨릭교회에 지대한 영향을 끼쳤다. 그가 어떠한 방식으로 가톨릭교회가 사회 문제에 참여하도록 독려하고 인도했는지 깊이 있게 분석할 필요가 있다. 먼저 로메로 대주교의 평전과 사목 교서를 중심으로 그의 비폭력 사상을 살펴본다. 그의 노선은 제2차 바티칸 공의회 문헌과 메데인의 라틴아메리카 주교회의 문헌에 따라 형성된 것이다. 로메로 대주교의 관점에서 신앙의 정치적 차원을 분석하면 종교적 정의와 사회적 정의가 교차하는 지점을 발견할 수 있다. 이러한 방식은 그의 신앙이 어떻게 정치적 행위의 맥락에 닿고 있는지 살펴볼 기회를 제공한다. 마지막으로 발터 벤야민의 대항 폭력에 관한 논의와 함께 로메로 대주교의 순교가 갖는 역사적 의의를 고찰한다.

Archbishop Óscar Romero was dedicated to the democratization process in El Salvador. During his three years in office, he led a non-violent struggle on the side of the poor who suffered the violence of the military dictatorship. Last year marked 30 years since the end of El Salvador's civil war (1981-1992). And with the election of Nayb Bukele as the country's 46th president in 2019, the country broke with bipartisanship and embarked on a new centrist path. Archbishop Óscar Romero was originally a conservative religious leader, and his transformation have had a profound impact on the Catholic Church in El Salvador. It is necessary to analyze objectively how he encouraged and led the Catholic Church in El Salvador to engage in social issues. This study focuses on the biography and pastoral letters of Monsignor Romero to examine his ideas on nonviolence. His choices were guided by the Second Vatican Council and the declaration of the Latin American Episcopal Conference of Medellin. Analyzing the political dimension of the Faith from the perspective of Monsignor Romero reveals the intersection between religious justice and social justice. Finally, the current relevance of the martyrdom of Monsignor Romero is examined in the context of a debate on counter-violence.
