<연당이소저전>의 설화 수용 양상과 의미

Abstract

<연당이소저전>은 국립한글박물관 소장 한글필사본 소설이다. 이 작품의 서사 형성에 직접적인 영향을 미친 설화는 크게 세 가지로, 첫째는 『高麗史』 世系 작제건 탄생 설화인데, 여기에 나타나는 중화귀인 결연 삽화는 중국에 대한 존주(尊周) 선망의식을 기반으로 혈통의 고귀함과 정통성을 강조하였다. 그러나 <연당이소저전>에서는 황위 계승 가능성이 없는 후궁 소생의 황자가 고난을 극복하고 황위에 오르고 조선의 여인을 황후로 삼아 행복을 누리는 애정 서사로 구성하였다. 두 번째, <연당이소저전>에는 연명설화 서사가 강하게 수용되었는데 그중에서도 경남 거제군 동부면에서 채록된 설화와 상당한 유사성이 있음을 발견하였다. 세 번째, 『고려사(高麗史)』 志第 권25, 樂2 <명주가(溟州歌)>에 나타나는 연화부인 설화를 수용하였다. <연당이소저전>에서는 특히 헤어진 연인을 다시 이어주는 잉어와 까막까치의 신이성이 강화되어 나타남을 알 수 있다. ‘황제의 상을 가진 후궁 소생 황자’라는 상황으로 인해 두 번의 위험을 겪은 후에야 비로소 황자는 운명을 극복하고 명나라로 가서 태자가 되었는데, 그 위험을 극복하게 해 준 동력은 夫婦之義를 보여준 이소저에게서 비롯되었다고 할 수 있다. 이는 <연당이소저전>에서 강조하려는 남녀 간 애정의 성격이 信義를 기반으로 한 부부애라는 점을 알 수 있으며, 이를 흥미롭게 전달하기 위해 여러 설화를 복합적으로 수용하여 애정을 중심으로 서사를 구성하였다고 볼 수 있다.

There are three main stories that directly affected the formation of the narrative of < Yeondangisojeojeon >. The first is Jakjegeon folktale in 『Koryŏsa』. Based on a sense of respect for the Chinese emperor's lineage, this narrative emphasized the nobility and legitimacy of the lineage. However, < Yeondangisojeojeon > is a new attempt in terms of creating a story that the powerless prince overcame hardships and enjoyed happiness by using a Joseon woman as an empress after rising to the throne. Second, < Yeondangisojeojeon > accepted a narrative that changed the fate of death. Third, Yeonhwabuin(蓮花夫人) folktale, which appears in < Myeongjuga(溟州歌) >, was accepted. In < Yeondangisojeojeon >, the mystery of carp and crow magpies, which connect separated lovers again, was strengthened. The prince was able to go to theMing Dynasty and become a prince only after two dangers. The power to overcome the danger originated from Isojeo, who showed the couple's loyalty. This shows the nature of affection between men and women, which is the subject emphasized in < Yeondangisojeojeon >. It can be said that the couple's faith and love are the power to overcome hardships and achieve happiness, and it is a complex acceptance and delivery of various stories.
