문학의 위기와 영화적 서사 - 스페인 아방가르드 소설의 경우 -

Abstract

20세기 초반 스페인 아방가르드 문학은 시대의 변화에 부응하지 못해 문학의 위기를 초래한 리얼리즘과 모더니즘의 재현 방식에 대한 반작용 현상이다. 스페인 서사 문학의 혁신을 주도한 아방가르드 작가들은 1925부터 1935년까지 활발한 창작 활동을 한다. 이러한 변화의 과정은 스페인 내전 (1936-1939)으로 인해 좌절되고 1970년대에 이르러서야 조금씩 문학사적으로 재조명되기 시작한다. 스페인 아방가르드 작가들은 리얼리즘의 미메시스 규범과 모더니즘의 엘리트주의를 극복하고 새로운 미학을 정립하고자 노력한다. 본 연구는 스페인 아방가르드 소설이 문학적 수사를 과도하게 사용함에도 불구하고 당대 사회의 근대적 욕망을 반영하고 있으며 서사적 관점에서 영화 기법을 차용하고 있다는 사실을 예증하고 있다. 스페인 아방가르드 소설가들이 의탁하고 있는 영화 기법은 리얼리즘의 미메시스 미학을 전복시킨다. 즉 스토리 위주의 전통적인 서사를 과감히 탈피하고 이미지 중심의 서사로 전환한다. 결국 영화 기법은 아방가르드 미학에서 가장 중요한 인자로 부상하여 아방가르드 소설의 실험적인 서사 기법에 유용하게 차용된다.

The literature of Spanish avant-garde in the first third of the 20th century reacted against the literary forms of both Realism and Modernism, so conventional at that time, and caused literary crisis. The young avant-garde novelists initiated a renewal in the Spanish literature that reached their peak between 1925-1935. However, the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) stopped the process of continuity of these changes which did not rise again until the 70s of the 20th century. The avant-garde writers tried to overcome the limitations of the mimetic perspective of Realism and the elitist of Modernism while practicing their own avant-garde aesthetics. The current study aims to verify the narrative techniques in some Spanish avant-garde novels in order to demonstrate that avant-garde aesthetics was constructed with reflections of their society, with cinematographic techniques, as well as, with stylistic resources such as the use of metaphor. The cinematographic techniques used by avant-garde novelists respond to the subversion of the aesthetics of realistic mimicry by eliminating the classic element of the narrative plot and replacing it with cinematic images. Therefore, cinematography is one of the most used aesthetic resources in the experimental narrative techniques of the Spanish avant-garde of the first third of the 20th century.
