Abstract

La route des Flandres of Claude Simon presents past experiences of the narrator Georges, such as war, the death of his captain, the love with the wife of his captain Corinne, etc., returning incessemment in his memory. In this novel, the stories are not chronological, but they come in a fragmentary form, the one following the other in their internal relationship. The purpose of this work is to reflect on the characteristics of writing to realize the real perceived by the narrator of this novel. In fact, the writing of this novel bears the specific aspects in several perspectives. Firstly, The view which moves between the first and third person in an extremely elongated sentence without any explicit explanation nor the change of the paragraph destroys the boundary between inside and outside, between subject and object, between self and other, and at the same time it binds disparate aspects on one line of temporality. The writing of La route des Flandres often destroying punctuation by removing points, question marks or double quotes makes "the adventure of writing". This novel tries to present both underground aspects in the consciousness of the narrator in which the real, the memory and the imagination mingle with each other and at the same time reveal the specific materiality of writing. Transforming the normal spelling, the writing of this novel reveals the sonorous and musical aspects and gives the internal real tangible and concrete aspect.
