「부용의 상사곡」에 나타난 평양의 문화적 현상과 그 의미

Abstract

This thesis explores the cultural phenomenon of the classic novels, centrally Buyong-sangsagok which was written in the turning point of modern times. Most of classic novels in Joseon era are directed in the background of its country and China. When it comes to the turning point in modern age, however, the last classic novel, Buyong-sangsagok, tells the core story in the same space, Pyungyang; in other word, not in the transcendent and vague space, but in the space with historical and cultural atmosphere, the novels are played based on their microscopic geography. Pyungyang was especially known for history, art, scenic spots, and entertainment at that time, so their love stories in Pyungyang sound familiar. Moreover, the realistic endings of the men from different areas and the Gisaengs from Pyungyang would make readers feel sympathy and attract their interest. However, the recognition of Pyungyang is set differently to main characters; for heroes, Pyungyang is for love and playing, and for heroines, it is for living and reality. This different recognition leads them to the conclusion of journey to Pyungyang and the heroes meet the ideal women free from social status there realizing the true meaning of life.
