野口赫宙(장혁주(張赫宙))의 새로운 작가적 모색으로서의 추리소설에 대한 고찰 -『호상의 불사조(湖上の不死鳥)』를 중심으로-

Abstract

In this article, I corroborate the method and attitude of Noguchi Gakuchu`s detective story writing with the understanding of his masterpiece "The Invulnerable Bird of the Lake". Generally, detective novel writers focus mainly on amusing the reader through tension and intrigue; however, Gakuchu`s goal was to create great literature by describing in detail each of the characters in his book. "The Invulnerable Bird of the Lake" is Gakuchu`s masterpiece which details corruption among the aristocrat of a rural town during an election. Unfortunately, because of Gakuchu`s portrayal of every aspect of each individual character`s life, the tension wanes throughout the novel. I believe that the author did not fulfill the goal he set out to accomplish because I cannot verify this style in anything he wrote for ten years after the three years he spent using this style.
