- Abstract
- Lu Chuan is a chinese filmmaker and screenwriter. He is one of most successful sixth generation directors. Hailed as a major new voice in Chinese cinema, Lu Chuan`s first two films is The Missing Gun and Ke Ke Xi Li(Mountain Patrol) What Lu chuan claims as "Auteur in the system" means a director who creates a masterpiece without losing its own ``originality`` and ``artistry`` in harmony with market system or national power. The "system" that he mentions has more than one meaning. It`s film industry system including makers, producer system and star employment. It`s also about the norms and convention when it comes to film production, issue and broadcast. And it`s the standard of scenario structure, epic cunning, space and character handling. He directed 『The missing gun』and 『Ke Ke Xi Li』and both films are about the issues of human existence. Unlike existing 6 generation director`s narration, it completes both fun and artistry. Lu Chuan acknowledges that we don`t have any option in terms of the issue that movie is around market system and market is an objective reality for us who live in the boundary of the system. In the film of 『The Missing Gun』and 『Ke Ke Xi Li』, the combination of artistic and popularity presents Chinese film industry`s development and expansion and also illustrates as an option to revitalize the film market in a slump.
